CHERRIES’ Ryan Christie started as Scotland delivered Denmark’s first defeat of the qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory to secure a home playoff contest in 2022.

Kasper Hjulmand’s outfit had won every game of qualifying up until the visit to Hampden Park, where an inspired Tartan Army needed a result to land the seeded home draw.

Centre-half John Souttar headed home to give Scotland the lead in the first-half, before Saints’ Armstrong was substituted on in the second period, before Che Adams countered to strike the second.

The result means Steve Clarke’s side have been victorious in six consecutive matches, dating back to the start of September when they last lost at the hands of Denmark in Copenhagen.

The World Cup playoff draw for the European nations takes place in Zurich, Switzerland, on Friday, November 26 at 4PM.

Taking place in 2022, playoff teams will have to win two single-leg knockout rounds to secure passage to Qatar 2022, with three separate pathways allowing three teams to qualify.
