WIMBORNE Town continued their progression in the FA Trophy with victory at Southern Premier South rivals Weston-super-Mare.

Despite sitting bottom of the division, Magpies upset the form book with an impressive 2-1 victory on the road, against a Weston side who won 3-0 at Poole Town in midweek.

James Stokoe's men soaked up some early pressure with Dayle Grubb twice firing over the crossbar, before Callum Chugg produced a goal-line clearance.

And that allowed Magpies to take the shock lead, Mark Jamison rising high to head home from a Curtis Young corner.

The Seagulls hit straight back, though, equalising when Grubb found Alfie Moulden to smash into the top corner, his first goal for the club.

Goalkeeper Ryan Hall had to be alert to keep the game level with two fine saves, before Lewis Beale put the visitors back in front.

With 17 minutes to play, the forward latched onto a long throw to fire low past stopper Max Harris.

Hall produced a brilliant stop to deny Grubb a late equaliser, as Wimborne moved into the second round.

Magpies collect £3,000 for the win, and will find out their next opponents in Monday's draw.
