SCOTT Parker explained how both Leif Davis and Orjan Nyland were unavailable for Wednesday night's visit of Preston North End.

Cherries fell to a shock defeat to the Lilywhites, going down 2-1 at Vitality Stadium.

It was the first time Cherries had lost in the Championship all season.

With Jordan Zemura injured, Chris Mepham filled in at left-back, with Davis still absent from the squad.

The Leeds United loanee was at Vitality Stadium, seen taking part in running drills on the pitch after the contest.

Asked why Davis was not involved against Preston, Parker said: "Meps did very, very well when he came on (at left-back) against Reading.

"Leif has had a sickness bug.

"That wasn't the reason we lost the game, but there was definitely a lot of thinking in that position."

Zemura is also set to miss Saturday's contest against Swansea due to an ankle problem, but Parker hopes Davis may be available, or he could turn to Robbie Brady at left-back.

The former Burnley man was on the bench for the first time last night for his new club, following his arrival as a free agent last month.

"I hope Leif is up to speed," said Parker.

"Robbie now it’s another couple of days and Meps as well. Meps did very well in certain moments. So there’s a decision to be made there."

Meanwhile, Parker explained why goalkeeper Nyland was not involved against the Lilywhites.

Although he would not have featured with first choice stopper Mark Travers available, Norway international Nyland had previously been involved in every matchday squad since arriving at the club in August.

Instead, his spot on the bench was filled by youngster Will Dennis.

Asked why Nyland was not in the squad, Parker told the Daily Echo: "Family issues. He wasn’t involved for personal reasons really."
