POOLE Town came from behind to see off Hendon 2-1 in the Southern Premier South, strengthening their grip on fourth spot in the early league table.

Goals from Jamie Whisken and Tony Lee cancelled out Hamza Semakula's early opener.

Despite starting brightly and playing with confidence in the opening 10 minutes, the away side would take a somewhat fortunate lead.

After gathering a corner, Mark Childs seemingly collided with a Poole player causing the goalkeeper to spill the ball to Semakula, who duly slotted into the open net after just 12 minutes played.

The opener left Poole boss Tom Killick concerned, as he revealed to the Daily Echo: “I wondered if it was going to be one of those performances where we started off really well, and then got sort of above ourselves, and forgot about the basics.

“Perhaps we thought it was going to be easier than it was.

“We allowed them a foothold in the game, then they got the goal, and I think that transforms them – they were low on confidence coming here, on the back of two defeats, but I feel the goal has galvanised them.”

It wasn’t until the second half until Poole could take control of the game again, with parity being restored by a Whisken header shortly after the hour mark.

Dolphins then spent the rest of game pouring men forward in attempt to find a winner, eventually coming up trumps via top goalscorer Lee, who slotted home his 16th of the campaign to give Poole all three points.

“In the second half we were a lot brighter,” continued Killick.

“But it suited them, playing on the counter. It’s a bit of a tricky situation for us.

“I didn’t think we were very good in a lot of aspects, but the positive is we have come back from a losing position and ending up in a winning position.”
