JEFFERSON Lerma started for Colombia as they became the first side to avoid defeat to Brazil in 10 matches of World Cup qualifying.

Cherries star Lerma played the first 52’ for the South American side as they drew 0-0 against the in-form visitors, with the likes of Neymar unable to get on the scoresheet.

It was an uneventful affair for the duration that Lerma was on the pitch, but burst into life at both ends despite no eventual breakthrough in the last half-hour.

The result leaves Colombia fifth in the ten-team group, having won three, drawn six and lost two of their 11 games played.

The top four teams qualify automatically for Qatar and the fifth-placed side goes into an inter-regional playoff.

Meanwhile, Jamal Lowe was dropped to the bench for Jamaica as they also held Canada to a 0-0 draw at home.

It means they remain bottom in CONCACAF having picked up just two points from the first five fixtures, with their chances of reaching Qatar with their rejuvenated squad growing thinner by the months.
