MERLEY Cobham Sports preserved their perfect start with a 5-0 thumping of previously unbeaten Hamworthy Recreation in the Dorset Premier League.

Cobham steamed out the blocks at Magna Road, netting twice in the first four minutes through Lee Wilkins and Josh Buck.

Rec were stunned with Merley pushing forwards to extend their lead just past the quarter-hour mark, with Buck fouled in the penalty area.

Up stepped Matt Groves, making no mistake from the spot.

Hamworthy reacted well to the latest setback, finally applying some pressure. Johnny Webb was unlucky not to find the net with his spectacular overhead kick superbly saved by Andy Knights. Knights then denied Jack Satterley, to ensure Merley remained 3-0 ahead at the break. The game was finally put to bed around the hour mark, Nathan Walker heading home from a Groves corner.

Steve Gilbert wrapped up the win in the closing minutes.

Elsewhere in the division, Swanage Town & Herston were beaten 3-1 at Balti Sports, despite a Charlie Brassington goal.

Corfe Castle were also beaten, going down 5-2 at Bridport reserves.

Both Corfe goals came courtesy of Aaron Merredew.

Poole Borough won 2-1 against Sherborne Town reserves.
