DEFENDER Lloyd Kelly revealed how he was relishing the chance to work alongside Gary Cahill at Cherries and added: “He is going to be important.”

Former England international Cahill arrived at Cherries last month having signed a one-year contract at Vitality Stadium.

The 35-year-old, who played alongside head coach Scott Parker at international level, adds a wealth of experience to the Dorset club’s ranks having enjoyed an illustrious playing career at the top level.

During his time at Chelsea, Cahill won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and two Europa League crowns, as well as the Champions League and League Cup.

And, while he has not yet had the opportunity to line-up alongside Cahill, fellow centre-back Kelly is eager to learn from the former England man.

Asked about working with Cahill, Kelly told the Daily Echo: “He’s got so much experience and knowledge to pick at and I know he is going to be important for this season – of where we want to get to.

“He’s going to be a key role to our success, 100 per cent.

“It’s just being that sponge, picking his brain and getting that knowledge off him. I am looking forward to that.

“There will be plenty of time to pick his brain and have a talk through different situations. I am looking forward to it.”
