GAVIN Kilkenny impressed in an Ireland shirt as the under-21s picked up a 2-0 victory against Bosnia & Herzegovina, with one fan saying: “He could do a job for the seniors.”
The Cherries youngster starred in midfield alongside Conor Coventry, including taking a number of dangerous set-pieces for the Irish side.
The victory kicked off the nation’s UEFA European Championship under-21 campaign in the perfect manner, but even then Kilkenny partly stole the show.
Twenty-one year-old Kilkenny had also worked a short corner routine to set the aforementioned Coventry up for the second goal late in the game, to secure all three points.
Here’s what was said about him on social media website Twitter following the match:

Strong performance from Ireland who never looked like losing after they took the lead. Strong performances from Jake O'Brien, Gavin Kilkenny and Ross Tierney.
Another exceptional performance from Bournemouth star Gavin Kilkenny (21) at the base of midfield 🇮🇪⚽️🔥

The Peterborough man had a strong game in midfield as himself and Gavin Kilkenny controlled the middle of the park. Picked up the second goal and after a nice set-piece routine 🇮🇪 pic.twitter.com/wAE7NHwm3x

vs Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ireland controlled the 1st half
but couldn’t break down Bosnia.
They showed a higher intensity,
which was needed, in the 2nd half.
Good result and performance.
Kilkenny impressed in midfield.#COYBIG #IRLU21 ⚽️🇮🇪
