DETERMINED Emiliano Marcondes insisted he felt there was “not that big of a gap” between the top of the Championship and the bottom of the Premier League.

The Danish midfielder was speaking ahead of Cherries’ Carabao Cup second-round clash at Norwich tomorrow.

Daniel Farke’s side were promoted to the Premier League as Championship title winners last season - but have been handed heavy losses by Manchester City and Liverpool to start this campaign.

Marcondes was part of the Brentford team who got to the semi-final of last season’s competition, knocking out the likes of Southampton, Fulham, West Brom and Newcastle along the way.

Asked whether he felt Cherries could go to Carrow Road and get a result, the 26-year-old said: “Yeah, I think 100 per cent – and that’s my experience from last season as well, with Brentford.

“We played against a lot of Premier League teams. The league is not that big of a gap – not from the top of the Championship to maybe the bottom of the Premier League.

“With Brentford, we won against four Premier League teams last season.

“Here we played against Chelsea this pre-season and almost won. Chelsea are the Champions of the Champions League and a very strong side.

“I think we can go there (to Norwich) and win, of course. We believe, everyone believes in it.

“We will take it as a good development and a game we can go and play good football against a team that also wants to play.”

Marcondes played 66 minutes of Cherries’ first-round victory over MK Dons, a 5-0 success in Scott Parker’s first competitive game in charge.

And although Norwich is a step up in class for round two, the former Nordsjaelland man believes it will be a good yard stick to measure the squad’s progress.

“I think it will be high-intensity and a fun game to play,” he added.

“To play against the best teams in England and measure yourself against the top flight is always good.”
