PIRATES charger Ben Cook was pleased to get back in action with two race wins following injury, as he helped his side see off Scunthorpe 57-33 at home.

Having sustained a leg injury while taking on a guest booking last month, the Aussie made his return to racing at Wimborne Road with an eight-point haul for Neil Middleditch’s men.

After just two points from as many rides early on, the Cowra-born charger signed off his night with wins in heat 11 and heat 14 to record a solid night’s work.

Speaking after the meeting, Cook said: “The first and second race it felt like I had been out for a little bit longer than I had, but it was good to get it back with a couple of wins.”

Also assessing the victory, Poole’s Stefan Nielsen, who picked up 7+2, added: “They (Scunthorpe) were a bit under-strength. They had a couple of injuries from Tuesday night.

“We wanted to hit them hard, and we did. The boys deserve a lot of credit. We got a good score and gave the fans something to cheer about.”

Pirates are now second in the SGB Championship table and make the trip to Redcar this evening.
