CHERRIES have completed the signing of goalkeeper Orjan Nyland on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old has been training with the club this week and has now put pen-to-paper on a deal until the end of the season.

He has travelled with the squad to Birmingham ahead of tomorrow's Championship fixture at St Andrew's, where he could make his debut.

Nyland, a Norway international, arrives to provide experience to the goalkeeping unit, which currently consists of Mark Travers and Will Dennis, aged 22 and 21 respectively.

Scott Parker has been keen to add to his goalkeeping unit, following the departure of Asmir Begovic to Everton last month.

Nyland gained experience in both the Norwegian top flight and Bundesliga with Molde and Ingolstadt respectively, before joining Aston Villa in the summer of 2018.

He played 23 times in the Championship in his first campaign, helping the club clinch promotion via the play-offs.

Nyland went on to play seven games in the Premier League the following season, including an infamous contest against Sheffield United in June 2020.

Despite falling behind his own goal-line with the ball in his hands, the Hawk-Eye technology system failed, meaning no goal was awarded. Villa went on to draw that match 0-0 against the Blades, eventually avoiding relegation by one point, at the expense of Cherries.

Nyland remained at Villa until February 2021, but having lost his place to Emiliano Martinez, departed to join Norwich City on a short-term deal.

There he provided cover for Tim Krul as the Canaries were promoted from the Championship.

And, in a move which has come about very quickly in the past couple of days, he has now linked up with Cherries until the end of the campaign.

Nyland becomes Parker's third signing since taking charge of the club over the summer, following Emiliano Marcondes and loanee Leif Davis.
