JAMES Wright is set to continue to guest for Poole Pirates for all three of their upcoming meetings this week.

Experienced racer Wright stepped in at the last minute to ride for Pirates at Leicester on Saturday night, after Ben Cook crashed out during a guest ride for Redcar Bears on Friday evening.

And Wright made a vital contribution with a seven-point haul in the 47-43 victory over the Lions.

The 35-year-old is part of both Sheffield Tigers' and Newcastle Diamonds' line-up this season.

Pirates are faced with a hectic schedule in the next fortnight. They travel to Kent tomorrow before welcoming Leicester to Wimborne Road on Wednesday evening.

Poole then go to Scunthorpe on Friday night.

Asked how Cook is recovering after suffering a nasty leg wound last week, Pirates promoter Danny Ford told the Daily Echo: "He’s okay. He’s back home now.

"He didn’t have to have a skin graft in the end, just got the wound all stitched up and he’s recovering.

"It’s just kind of a case of how quickly that heals now. It could be a week, it could be slightly longer, but we’ll hopefully have him back sooner rather than later because he’s been an absolute sensation for us at reserve, so looking forward to having him back."

And Ford also confirmed Wright has been booked in for all three meetings this week to cover Cook's absence.

"James is covering us for the next week – Kent on Tuesday, then back at ours on Wednesday and Scunthorpe on the Friday," Ford told the Daily Echo.

"So hopefully by then Ben is kind of healed up enough to race.

"If not, we’ll have to reassess things and look at bringing in a guest to fill the void while Ben does get fully fit."

Discussing Wright's display at Leicester, Ford added: "A fantastic guest who really stepped up when we needed him to.

"That’s why we’ve booked him in, just to cover for Ben for the next few meetings.

"We know what he’s capable of. He’s an experienced pair of hands and we’ll be looking for more of the same."

Pirates head to Kent on a run of six meetings unbeaten, winning five.

And Ford is keen for Poole to maintain their momentum as they look to climb from their current position of sixth in the Championship table.

"We’ve had a lot fewer meetings than everyone, so our position in the league table probably isn’t reflective of how we’ve actually been performing," insisted Ford.

"So now our season really starts, it really gets kicking off now and the meetings are coming thick and fast.

"It’s important to carry this momentum that we’ve built in the past couple of weeks through and hopefully have a good summer."
