EX-CHERRIES goalkeeper Asmir Begovic made a dream start to life at Everton with a penalty scored and penalty saved to seal the Toffees a pre-season Florida Cup win.

Rafa Benitez’s side faced Colombian outfit Millonarios and debutant Begovic denied two penalties in the shoot-out, stepping up to score Everton’s last himself before making the decisive second save on spot-kick number 11 right after.

Struck firmly down the middle, it was certainly a more convincing effort than his missed spot-kick in the EFL Cup 11-10 shoot-out win over Premier League side Crystal Palace last season, although he still ended up as the hero then too.

As well as making himself the shoot-out king, Begovic, 34, made a handful of top saves in open play to keep the opposition at bay, with the game ending 1-1 and an incredible 10-9 on penalties.

Another debutant, Demarai Gray, had scored from the spot to equalise after Andres Llinas had given Millonarios the lead – but nobody could steal the plaudits from the Bosnian shot-stopper.

Begovic had joined Everton on a 12-month deal last week, although the contract has the option of a further year extension.

He had arrived at Cherries from Chelsea for £10million in the summer of 2017 and had been the club’s number one keeper for the majority of his first two Premier League seasons at the club.

He was then sent out on loan to Qarabag and Milan for the 2019-20 campaign, before returning to reclaim a first-team spot under Jason Tindall last season – a position he kept under Jonathan Woodgate.

He also won the Daily Echo-Micky Cave player of the year award last season and was named in the Championship team of the season, but will now look to provide competition for England number one Jordan Pickford in blue.
