STEVE Worrall led the charge with a 14-point haul as Poole Pirates clinched their first away win of the Championship season, triumphing 47-43 at Leicester.

Looking to follow-up their emphatic cup win over Plymouth in midweek, Pirates got off to a strong start, leading 14-10 after the first four heats with Worrall, captain Danny King and guest James Wright all recording heat wins.

Poole, who also saw Alfie Bowtell guesting with Ondrej Smetana still unavailable to debut and Ben Cook ruled out through injury after a crash whilst riding for Redcar last night, were quickly pegged back as Leicester recorded the first 5-1 of the night.

Wright continued to prove his worth, picking up four points from his next two outings, while Worrall led Stefan Nielsen home for a Poole maximum in heat eight.

Hans Andersen was impressing for the Lions to keep the scoreline tight, with the contest level at 39-39 with just two heats remaining.

However, Gary Havelock's Pirates surged clear with Danyon Hume winning a thrilling heat 14.

And Poole completed the job with a 4-2 in the final race, Worrall rounding off a good night's work with another heat win, with King coming home in third.

Pirates 47: Worrall 14, King 10+1, Wright 7, Schlein 6, Hume 5, Nielsen 4+2, Bowtell 1+1.

Leicester 43: Andersen 12, Howarth 8+1, Douglas 7+2, Morris 6+1, D Thompson 6+1, Kennedy 3, J Thompson 1.
