DORSET motorcycling star Brad Jones has been airlifted to hospital after a serious crash in a championship race.

Jones was left unconscious following the incident at Brands Hatch in the Bennetts British Superbikes Championship.

Jones, 23, crashed at the Clark Curve on a drying track in race one of the third championship’s third round.

Race officials immediately red-flagged the race while Jones was tended to by trackside and medical teams.

The Stalbridge man was transferred to the circuit’s medical centre for further treatment before being airlifted to King’s College Hospital, London.

British Superbikes have indicated further updates on Jones’ condition will be provided when available.

Yamaha rider Tarran Mackenzie went on to win the shortened 12-lap race, following a one-hour delay.

Jones is embarking on his debut season in British Superbikes, following two runner-up campaigns in Supersport – the tier below.

Jones has received an outpouring of well wishes on social media, including the experienced Honda rider Glenn Irwin, who has three British Superbike wins in his career.
