CHERRIES could be dealt a blow after Martin Dubravka’s foot injury will reportedly sideline him for a month – including the start of the Premier League season.

A season-long loan deal had been agreed to take 24-year-old goalkeeper Freddie Woodman to Vitality Stadium, with the stopper even ready to join Cherries’ squad training in Marbella.

That deal was stalled after Slovakian ‘keeper Dubravka was required to see a consultant regarding the injury, and the news is reportedly bad for Scott Parker’s side.

The Daily Mail understand his metatarsal injury will see him out for the start of the campaign and therefore Karl Darlow will be restored a starting spot, with Woodman required to make up numbers and offer backup.

That being said, the Magpies do have 29-year-old Mark Gillespie as further backup and a Cherries deal could depend on Newcastle's stance on him.

Freddie Woodman loan deal depends on Dubravka injury

Cherries' new kits for 2021-22 season are revealed

Woodman was on loan in the Championship last season too, making 43 appearances as his Swansea side were one game away from the top-flight before play-off final defeat to Brentford.

The Daily Echo understands that Cherries have two ‘keepers out in Marbella, in Mark Travers and Will Dennis, with Asmir Begovic nursing a hip flexor injury.

Newcastle’s recruitment team have reportedly been told they don’t have much room for spending, with a reported £10m kitty meaning there’ll be little room to make necessary additions and therefore free up moves for their own players elsewhere.

The Magpies first-team stopper, Dubravka, represented his country in the European Championships but came under fire after a comical error, in which he patted the ball into his own net from above the crossbar, during a 5-0 defeat to Spain.
