GOALKEEPER Asmir Begovic insists Cherries will be ready for “all eventualities” in their crucial play-off tie against Brentford – including extra-time and penalties.

The Bosnian stopper kept a clean sheet for the first time against the Bees this season, as Cherries sealed a 1-0 win against Thomas Frank’s side in the home leg on Monday.

But, speaking ahead of both ties last week, the Bosnian stopper – voted the Daily Echo Micky Cave player of the year for 2021 – insisted those behind the scenes would have been preparing in advance for every play-off outcome.

Jonathan Woodgate’s side make the trip to Brentford Community Stadium for the second leg tomorrow (12.30pm).

Asked when he started doing his homework on the Bees ahead of the contests, Begovic told the Daily Echo: “Well I think for me, it would have been from after the Stoke game.

“We didn’t know who we were going to play but obviously, the staff and everyone else would be preparing for things quite a way in advance really.

“They were obviously ready for whichever team we faced. Now we’ve had a good amount of time to really get ready.

“For me, it goes from game to game, but obviously the people in the background look at many games in advance.

“We have had a nice period here to prepare and make sure we are as ready as possible for all eventualities.

“If it’s two 90s or if it goes into extra time, penalties, whatever happens, we will hopefully be as ready as we can.”

Begovic, who next month turns 34, admits being one game away from a Wembley play-off final is something that gives him added motivation to deliver for Cherries.

“I think the carrot at the end to have Wembley within reach for us, is a huge motivation,” he added.

“The final itself is an incredibly big motivation for us and that’s why we want to try to progress in the semi-final.

“That final being at Wembley, of course, give is that little bit more added value.

“Having been in the game for a long time, I know how rare these occasions can be anyway, to get to finals, to compete for trophies and win trophies. They are few and far between.

“Not many players get to be in these situations year in, year out.

“Those are occasions you remember. I’ve been involved in quite a few games at Wembley in different ways and whether you are a young guy, whether you’ve played in those, involved in any way shape or form.

“They are big occasions and not just for myself, for my family, for a lot of people involved. It would be nice for sure.”
