FRUSTRATED Lloyd Kelly revealed how he and his team-mates were left "more than angry" with their performance against Stoke City at the weekend.

Cherries rounded off their regulation Championship campaign with a disappointing 2-0 loss to the Potters at Vitality Stadium.

Goals from Will Forrester and Tommy Smith secured victory for the mid-table side, a result which saw Cherries miss the chance to finish fourth, instead slipping to sixth spot.

Their season will be extended, with a tricky two-legged play-off semi-final clash against Brentford to come, starting at Vitality Stadium on May 17.

Discussing the loss the Stoke, defender Kelly said: "It is a hard one to take, but at the same time, us as players have to take accountability for the performance.

"Everyone knows that performance wasn’t good enough, especially leading up into the play-offs.

"Obviously finding out we’ve got Brentford now, so that’s going to be a tough two games to be able to go through to the final.

"But everyone in the changing room is more than angry with that performance, because we know we can do better."

Following a run of seven successive victories, Cherries ended the league season with three straight defeats, failing to score in losses against Brentford, Wycombe and Stoke.

Asked why he feels the performance was not up to scratch against the Potters, despite boss Jonathan Woodgate making changes and reverting to the side which had performed so well last month, Kelly said: "Obviously we’ll watch the game back and go through things that we thought that didn’t work well.

"But I’d probably say it’s a combination of things. I think the main thing taken from the game is the intensity that we play at.

"When we press teams, we’re on the front foot and sometimes during the game (on Saturday) it wasn’t there and maybe that could be the problem.

"But we’ll look through it and correct it before the play-offs."

Kelly made a welcome return to action at left-back, having missed the previous two matches due to an injury he suffered in victory at Millwall last month.

"Obviously I picked up a little injury with my ankle, but I managed to get through (on Saturday) and it felt good to be back out there," said the 22-year-old.

"But at the same time everyone’s fuming at the performance really.

"But it’s good to be back out there."
