GOALS from Jaidon Anthony and Christian Saydee fired Cherries to victory over Carlisle United in the Central League Cup final.

Both goals of the 2-0 triumph came in the first half at St George's Park, as Shaun Cooper's under-21s eased to victory.

Carlisle did carve out the first chance with Sam Fishburn heading wide, before Saydee then connected with a Jordan Zemura cross, but his shot was brilliantly saved by Gabriel Breeze.

But the deadlock was quickly broken through striker Saydee, turning home from close range after being teed up by Ben Greenwood.

Keelan O'Connell twice went close to adding a second, before Will Dennis had to be alert at the other end to thwart Gime Toure.

Cherries doubled their tally before the break. Brooklyn Genesini's perfect delivery was latched on to by Anthony, who made no mistake.

Luke Nippard hit the crossbar early in the second period, while Dennis preserved his clean sheet with a good stop from a Charlie Burch strike.

It is the second time in three years Cherries have won this trophy, also lifting it under Cooper in 2019.

Cherries: Dennis, Genesini, Gillela, Greenwood, Zemura, Kilkenny, Nippard, O'Connell, Glover (Hunt, 83), Anthony, Saydee (Jordan, 41).
