BOSS Jonathan Woodgate guided Cherries back into the Championship play-off places and insisted: “We need to keep on cracking the whip.”

The Cherries head coach saw his side seal a 4-1 victory over Coventry City at Vitality Stadium, thanks to a double from Arnaut Danjuma and goals from David Brooks and Dominic Solanke.

Victory took Cherries sixth in the table, leapfrogging Reading with two more points as well as a game in hand on the Royals.

Woodgate said: “We need to keep on cracking the whip, keep on wanting more off the players and more from ourselves as coaches – ‘what can we do better to try to make the players better?’.”

Matty James’s well struck free-kick for Coventry had made the game level at 1-1 following Danjuma’s opener after just 23 seconds.

But Woodgate was happy with the way his side showed their quality to seal three points.

“I am pleased with that performance,” he added.

“They are the types of games I get more nervous about because of where Coventry are in the league – if the players think they are just going to turn up and beat teams, or roll them they have got another thing coming.

“It was important in that game that our mentality was 100 per cent. Attitude was 100 per cent and application was 100 per cent.

“When you have that and you have the ability we have in the dressing room, then you are going to win the game.

“It’s important they did that from the start of the game. I thought our pressing was very good at times.”

Victory ensured a league double over the struggling Sky Blues and ensured Cherries won four league games in a row for the first time this campaign. “It’s the first time we have done it this season, which isn’t good enough,” said Woodgate.

“It should be more wins on the bounce for the team of Bournemouth’s calibre, it’s not good enough.”
