MATT Ritchie had “even emptied his locker” at Newcastle to head back to Cherries in January, according to a report in the Athletic.
The media outlet claims the 31-year-old had been keen to return to the south coast but the Magpies blocked any potential move as they could not secure a replacement.
The Athletic also report Newcastle were not willing to accept the terms put forward by the Dorset club, who reportedly favoured a loan that would turn permanent, if they sealed promotion.
Speaking on transfer deadline day about trying to sign Ritchie, former Cherries boss Jason Tindall said: “Unfortunately that one has not got over the line.
“We’ve got to respect Newcastle for that decision and wish Matty the best for the remainder of the season whilst he’s there. But I can’t sit here and say I’m not disappointed."
