FANS have been quick to have their say after Jonathan Woodgate was appointed as Cherries' new head coach.

Woodgate initially took over on a caretaker basis on February 3 following the dismissal of former boss Jason Tindall.

And, after a record of three wins, one draw and one defeat, the former England and Real Madrid centre-back has now been appointed as Cherries' new head coach on a deal until the end of the season.

Some Cherries fans commented via the Daily Echo website.

Adjam said: "Don't think he's as bad an option as some of the other names that were linked. Got to give him a chance, players seem to like him, so onwards and upwards hopefully."

Spinneyman added: "Very well done, the board have finally come to their senses. I am so glad for him, he has tried to hard to get things going.

"The team have rallied to a certain extent. If they try harder and pull together maybe things can get better."

Meanwhile, user cherrybright commented: "Common sense has prevailed thank God!

"He may not be my ideal choice, but his appointment until the end of the season was the only sensible solution as opposed to bringing in someone new at this stage of the season and disrupting everything and everyone. We are going nowhere anyway this season so this is just a damage limitation exercise."

Redhill Park added: "Right short-term decision, taking account of doubts over the other candidates and how Woodgate has helped players recover, albeit yesterday result his first setback.

"The process of not interviewing Woodgate before was flawed, but he now has the chance to prove his case. Target has to be playoffs (would be remarkable if went straight up), next two games will be good guide to rest of season.

"On numbers they must be an assistant short now, so hope he is allowed to bring in some experienced support. Here is your opportunity Jonathan, let's see what you have got."
