MIDFIELDER Jack Wilshere revealed Cherries was the only Championship side he would have signed for – and believes the squad is good enough to seal promotion back to the Premier League.

The former Arsenal star put pen to paper on a deal to the end of the season with the Dorset club last week.

Wilshere reunited with the club he spent time on loan at during the 2016-17 campaign, helping Cherries to their highest ever league finish.

An array of clubs had been linked with signing the 29-year-old, but he admitted his bond with Cherries had played a pivotal factor.

Asked whether Cherries was the only Championship club he would have signed for, Wilshere said: “Yeah, I think so.

“Obviously I have a special relationship with them after what we achieved when I was here before.

“We finished ninth in the Premier League, which is the club's highest ever position so I had a good time here and a special relationship with the fans, coaching staff and players, so that was a big reason.”

Wilshere’s first appearance on his return to action for Cherries did not go to plan. He came off the bench for the latter stages of Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Derby County.

Cherries are currently four points off the automatic promotion places in the second tier – having played a game more than second-placed Swansea.

Quizzed on whether Tindall’s squad has the makings of getting promoted, the England international said: “It’s a good squad, it’s a different squad to when I was here.

“I don’t know the league that well to say what it takes to get out of it. I’m learning, I’m speaking to the manager, I’m playing with players who have played in this division before.

But speaking with the players, the one thing I know that it takes is a lot of character, a lot of hard work and when I look through the squad here, there’s a lot of young players and they have big, big characters who played in the Premier League - so I think we have what it takes to get out of the league.

“It’s going to be difficult of course and we’ve had a couple of bad results, but now it’s about bouncing back.”

Wilshere could be involved when Cherries host Crawley in the FA Cup on Tuesday.
