PAUL Warne says his former team-mate Asmir Begovic had "the best day of his life" to earn Cherries a draw at Rotherham.

Junior Stanislas put Cherries ahead from the penalty spot before Freddie Ladapo's brace turned the game around.

However, the visitors responded to take a point thanks to Dominic Solanke's header.

Goalkeeper Begovic produced a string of impressive saves throughout at New York Stadium to deny the likes of Jamie Lindsay and Angus MacDonald in the 2-2 stalemate.

And Millers boss Warne, who played alongside Begovic during the Bosnian's loan spell from Portsmouth to Yeovil Town in 2008, admits he was impressed.

Asked for his take on the 33-year-old's diving stop to deny MacDonald's overhead kick, Warne said: "From where I was it just looked like a save and I was bitter. But it did look a good save to be fair.

"I know Asmir really well because I played with him at Yeovil. Since he played with me, luckily for him his career has gone in the right direction. He’s got a lot to thank me for for that, shooting at him in training.

"It was a good save and I think he made some good saves. In fairness that’s what he’s paid to do, but he did perform really well and the fact we’re making arguably the best team in the league’s goalkeeper make saves is testament to my team. I was really proud of them.

"We scored two goals against a really good team. We could’ve scored more if the keeper didn’t have the best day of his life. I can’t ask any more than that."

Warne added: "The first time they really went into our box was when we gave away the penalty.

"I think we were more than deserved of a point. I think the man-of-the-match was their goalkeeper, so I’ll look forward to watching the highlights later.

"We only had two days to work on a different system.

"We knew, the way they play with the five channels, we thought having a back five out of possession would stop Brooks, because obviously he’s the outstanding player. He’s so quick, it’s virtually like he’s cheating!"
