GARETH Stewart is relishing the chance to reunite with Neil Moss at Cherries adding: "I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into the role."

Stewart has this week been officially announced as the club's new assistant first-team goalkeeping coach, replacing Anthony White who recently took up a position with the FA to coach England's young goalkeepers.

Former Cherries keeper Stewart was already working at the club, but has now been promoted up from his role with the under-21s.

Stewart will work under head of goalkeeping Moss, with the pair having both been in Cherries' first-team squad together for almost six years between 2002 and 2008.

Between them, they have played more than 400 games in goal for Cherries, and they will now be working together to coach the current first-team trio of Asmir Begovic, Mark Travers and Will Dennis.

White: Working at Cherries was 'an absolute privilege'

Speaking to the Cherries website, Stewart said: “It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into the role because the club is in a really good place.

“This is an opportunity for me to work at a level that I haven’t done for a number of years and to get back into the first-team environment.

“The biggest thing for me is to help the guys and help Mossy drive it on as far as we can and try to bounce back straightaway. That was a big lure.

“It wasn’t a massive change for me to come into the environment and the biggest difference is that this is where I will stay.

“I probably came in about 20 times last season to help so started to strike up a relationship with the goalkeepers.

“It’s been an education because it’s a different way of doing things under a different manager and a different first-team coach.

“There is plenty to learn and plenty to do. I want to help push it as hard as we can to get back to where we want to be.”

Stewart has been replaced by former Wales international Lewis Price, who takes up a role as under-21 goalkeeper coach and assistant academy goalkeeping coach.

Billy Granger is the club's new under-18 goalkeeper coach and head of academy goalkeeping, replacing Joe Prodomo who departed to join Southend United in August.
