BOSS Jason Tindall described as a “difficult situation” Sheffield Wednesday’s scrap to overhaul a points deduction – having been there himself with Cherries.

The Owls were handed a 12-point penalty by an independent disciplinary panel for the 2020-21 season, for breaking spending rules.

Tindall helped rescue Cherries from a 17-point deduction in League Two amid financial issues during the 2008-09 campaign – having worked under former bosses Jimmy Quinn and Eddie Howe.

The Cherries manager is preparing his side to take on the Owls in the Championship tomorrow (7pm).

Asked what it was like to battle on the pitch having had points taken away off it, Tindall told the Daily Echo: “It’s difficult because you feel you are so far away from everybody before you have even kicked a ball.

“You are just fighting to claw back the points that have been deducted and you just hope the teams in front of you don’t get too far away before you are able to get in the plus and start chasing.

“It’s a difficult situation to be in. We have been there ourselves and managed to come out the other end in a way that we needed to.

“I am sure they (Sheffield Wednesday) will be thinking the same.

“It’s difficult for any team that is at the bottom of the league with zero points, let alone when you are starting on minus points.

“Mentally, it can be difficult to get your head round but, I’ve got to say, they’ve put that behind them, have started the season really well and clawed back some points early on.”

Garry Monk’s Owls are currently on minus-four points after nine games of the campaign. Having picked up two wins and two draws from nine contests.

“I think he’s a very good manager. I think he’s proved that in the clubs he’s been at,” said Tindall, when asked about his opposite number.

“He did well at Swansea, Birmingham and now Sheffield Wednesday. Obviously, it’s a difficult situation this season for them with the points deduction.

“It’s going to be another really tough game for us.”
