CHERRIES boss Jason Tindall is optimistic there will be no lasting damage for defender Adam Smith after he was withdrawn late on against Cardiff.

Smith was treated on the pitch before being replaced by Jack Simpson deep into second-half stoppage time during last night's 1-1 draw in south Wales, having collided with Bluebirds goalkeeper Alex Smithies.

The 29-year-old had previously played in every minute of his side's six Championship fixtures this season. But Tindall is confident the knock Smith suffered was not serious.

"He seems fine," Tindall told the Daily Echo when asked for an update on the defender.

"From seeing him and speaking to him in the changing room, there don’t seem to be too many problems.

"It was more precautionary why he ended up coming off with only 90 seconds remaining of the game.

"But that’s Adam Smith. He’s wholehearted, 100 per cent, tried to get on the end of a cross. Sam Surridge just before it had a good half chance he didn’t quite take or catch right and Smithy was unlucky to not get on the end of it."

Cherries face a quick turnaround with a trip to Watford on Saturday (12.30pm).
