BOSS Jason Tindall revealed how new recruit Cameron Carter-Vickers came highly recommended by Cherries’ first-team coach Graeme Jones.

Centre-half Carter-Vickers agreed a season-long loan switch to the Dorset outfit from Tottenham on Friday, the move coming late on domestic transfer deadline day.

The USA international worked with Jones in his previous role as manager of Luton last season, playing seven times during the coach’s spell in charge of the Hatters.

Asked about the signing of 22-year-old Carter-Vickers, Tindall told the Daily Echo: “He’s someone we’ve been aware of for a while.

“He’s someone that Graeme (Jones) spoke very, very highly of from his time at Luton and seeing him ourselves, he’s a very, very good player.

“A very good defender and he will certainly add to the group.

“I'm really happy. Obviously, we’ve lost a lot of players from the squad last year.

“I think we lost 10 or 11 players from the Premier League squad that were influential. If you lose that many players and you only bring in (Rodrigo) Riquelme, you do leave yourself a little bit short.

“I felt we needed to add another body to give us some strength in depth and Cameron is a great signing for us.”

Essex-born Carter-Vickers came through Spurs' academy to make his first-team debut in 2016 and has gone on to play three more times in the FA Cup and League Cup for the club.

This will be the centre-back's sixth loan spell away from Tottenham, who have an option to recall him in January.

He has previously played in the Championship for Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City and Stoke City, as well as last season at Luton.

The defender has also represented USA eight times at senior level, with his first appearance coming against Portugal in a 1-1 draw in November 2017.

Carter-Vickers could be part of Cherries’ squad to make the trip to Cardiff City in the Championship on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Asked how he felt the summer transfer window went for Cherries as a whole, following Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers, Tindall added: “I’m happy with the squad.

“When you look at the players that we’ve had missing in the past two games, Arnie (Danjuma) just getting back to fitness, Junior (Stanislas) the same, David Brooks not involved in the squad, Lloyd Kelly not involved, Philip Billing.

“I think we’ve got some good quality players that, for whatever reason, weren’t available at the weekend.

“I think when you add them into the mix, we’re strong and competition for places is strong, which is a good thing.”
