BOURNEMOUTH Cycle Speedway's scheduled anniversary meeting has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The club were set to mark the 60th year since the founding of the club on Sunday, October 4.

Set to be held at Harbourside Park, the event was due to coincide with Poole's Veteran Laurels meeting.

One of Bournemouth's founders, former rider and manager Mike Pretty, said: "Where have those 60 years gone? It almost seems like yesterday when we staged our first official meeting at Iford Lane in June 1960.

"The guys put a lot of effort into getting the club off the ground and our progress over the years, including our time as a tarmac outpost, saw national recognition and an immense feeling of pride and togetherness amongst our members."

It is hoped both cancelled events can take place in 2021.
