CHERRIES are close to making Rodrigo Riquelme their first signing under boss Jason Tindall, according to reports.

BBC Radio Solent and Sky Sports are among the outlets claiming the winger is nearing a loan switch from Atletico Madrid.

The 20-year-old has been training with Championship outfit Reading since pre-season, but it appears Cherries have swooped before the Royals could complete a deal.

Sky claim Riquelme is "at Vitality Stadium" to undergo a medical today.

The diminutive Spaniard has played twice for the Atletico first team, with both appearances coming last season.

Riquelme came off the bench to help the Spanish giants to a late 3-2 win over Eibar in La Liga last September, also featuring as a substitute in the Copa Del Rey defeat at Cultural Leonesa.

Speaking earlier today, Tindall told Sky Sports: "Hopefully we'll get one over the line in the next 24 to 48 hours, one that we've been working on behind the scenes for some time now.

"If we can get that one over the line I do think it will be a really exciting signing for us and a player that I feel will add great quality to the current squad we've already got."
