ADAM Smith failed a late fitness test to be involved against Crystal Palace last night, boss Jason Tindall revealed.

The defender, who played the full 90 minutes of Saturday's win against Blackburn Rovers, was due to be in the squad for the Carabao Cup clash with the Eagles.

However, a late withdrawal meant Cherries named just six substitutes as opposed to the allotted seven for the contest.

"Adam Smith didn’t really come through a fitness test quite late on Tuesday afternoon," Tindall told the Daily Echo.

"And the under-21s had already travelled away for a game (in Torquay). It was a little unfortunate.

"That was the reason why we only had six subs on the bench."

Cherries progressed into round three of the Carabao Cup, defeating Palace 11-10 on penalties after a goalless draw at Vitality Stadium.
