AARON Ramsdale has been named Cherries player of the year.

The goalkeeper, who also scooped the Micky Cave/Daily Echo supporters crown, was selected by fans on the official Cherries website as their standout player of the 2019-20 campaign.

Ramsdale made his Premier League debut a year ago today, in the league opener against Sheffield United.

He went on to feature in all but one of the top-flight matches for Cherries and impressed despite their relegation.

Ramsdale topped the poll with 46.83 per cent of the vote, ahead of Nathan Ake (32.02 per cent) and Joshua King (3.97 per cent). Jefferson Lerma and Diego Rico rounded off the top five.

Ramsdale pulled off 129 saves in the Premier League last season, behind only Norwich’s Tim Krul (132) and Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka (140).

The 22-year-old has been the subject of summer interest from his former club Sheffield United, with Cherries rejecting a bid of around £12million for his services.

The Blades are reportedly set to return with an improved offer, but Cherries are reluctant to sell one of their prize assets, who they signed for £800,000 in 2017.
