MOTHERWELL boss Stephen Robinson is a contender to become Cherries’ new manager, according to the Press Association.
Cherries, who were relegated from the Premier League last week, are understood to be aiming for a swift appointment with next season’s Championship campaign starting on September 12.
Current caretaker boss Jason Tindall is also in the running to replace Eddie Howe, who left the club by mutual consent on Saturday.
Robinson also played with several current staff members at Vitality Stadium during his time in Dorset, including Tindall, technical director Richard Hughes and coach Steve Fletcher.
He made 288 appearances, scoring 62 goals for Cherries, before joining Preston in 2000.
He featured for Cherries alongside Howe during the 1998 Football League Trophy final, where they lost 2-1 to Grimsby.
Former Northern Ireland international Robinson has impressed on a tight budget at Fir Park and has guided Motherwell into the Europa League, after finishing third last season.
He was a candidate for the Northern Ireland job earlier this campaign before Ian Baraclough was confirmed as Michael O’Neill’s successor in June.
