PIRATES will face an anxious wait on the condition of Adam Ellis – should the 2020 SGB Championship be given the green light to begin this season.

The 24-year-old recently crashed on his bicycle in France and suffered a fractured wrist.

Ellis was raising money for a childhood cancer charity by aiming to ride 500km in five days.

He said: “It wasn’t the way I wanted to finish the week but it is what it is.

“I got sent over the bars as I was going 35kmh downhill and ended up with a fractured wrist and small cuts and bruises.”

Speaking about the injury, Poole promoter Danny Ford said: “Our first thoughts are to send Adam our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

“He was trying to do some good and help out others and it has resulted in him still facing a potential period off the track once we get speedway up and running in this country.

“We can only hope that he recovers well and that it won't be too long before he can be back on a bike."
