THROUGH THE TAPES – MAY 27 2015

SOMETIMES you can’t win, even when you do.

For leading lights such as Poole Pirates, a home clash with beleaguered Leicester is never an enviable task.

The home crowd promptly set about trying to fathom how big the margin of victory would be before the tapes flew up.

But Lions had not read the script and it took some steely resolve from Grand Prix star Maciej Janowski alongside a resurgent Chris Holder to eventually put clear blue water between Pirates and their plucky adversaries.

Neil Middleditch’s men sealed a 52-38 victory at Wimborne Road, mainly thanks to Holder’s 13 paid 14.

There were also important contributions from Janowski (8+1), Kacper Gomolski (8+1) and Kyle Newman (9+4).

Pirates: 1 Davey Watt 6, 2 Chris Holder 13+1, 3 Dakota North 6+1, 4 Kacper Gomolski 8+1, 5 Maciej Janowski 8+1, 6 Paul Starke 2, 7 Kyle Newman 9+4.

Lions: 1 Jason Doyle 6, 2 Sam Masters 4+1, 3 Nick Morris (guest) 10, 4 Szymon Wozniak 0, 5 Richard Lawson (guest) 5+2, 6 Charles Wright (guest) 11, 7 Simon Lambert 2+1.
