AUSSIE ace Josh MacDonald insisted it was “massive” to stay race ready for when speedway can begin – and has been testing his fitness against that of former Pirate Ricky Wells.

The duo are based together in Doncaster and have been undergoing daily home workouts and running to help stay in shape for the start of the campaign.

British chiefs last month announced the campaign was “unlikely” to begin before June 15 – with MacDonald still waiting for his debut in the skull and crossbones.

“That’s a massive thing I reckon – to try to stay fit at the moment,” he told Speedway Portal.

“To keep ready instead of eating out the pantry and watching Netflix all day long.

“Ricky is a lot better runner than me, I will happily admit that. I am shocking at it but we set out a home workout to do every day and we give each other a good run at that.

“It makes it a bit disappointing actually because the weather is so nice, we haven’t had much rain. It’s perfect speedway weather.

“When we can get outside, I like to go for a run and try to enjoy the day as much as I can.”
