DORSET star Georgia Hall revealed she had pushed herself by taking up running in a bid to stay fit for when golf can resume.

The 23-year-old, based at a new home near Parkstone, admitted she was “forcing myself to run” as well as undergoing her regular gym routine in a bid to be razor sharp when heading back on the course.

Former Women’s British Open champion Hall would have this week been competing in the ANA Inspiration – the first women’s major of the year.

But due to the coronavirus outbreak, that event has been rescheduled for September.

Hall, ranked 39th in the world, told BBC Sport: “I want to take the opportunity to try and get fitter because I think when we do start it will be nine, 10 weeks in a row.

“So I don't want to get tired when the golf season starts again.

"I've got resistance bands, mats, foam rollers so I do a bit of that. But as my one form of outdoor exercise I probably go for a 30, 40-minute run which is something I never used to do, never.

"I'm forcing myself to run which is really good for me and for my willpower because I never used to be that good at it.

“I'm really trying to put the effort in each day over five or six kilometres."

Hall has not featured on the LPGA Tour since February’s women’s Australian Open.

"It is very strange to be at home constantly," she added.

"Obviously there is nothing I'd like more than to be out playing an event right now, but there are much more important things going on in the world than golf, I completely understand that."
