CURTIS Young’s first-half strike proved consolation as Wimborne were beaten 2-1 at home by Southern League South promotion-chasers Chesham.
The visitors took command of the contest with goals from Eoin Casey and Zak Joseph before winger Young ran on to Tony Lee’s precise pass to pull a goal back for the Cuthbury club.
But despite Antonio Diaz’s deflected strike hitting the post in the second half, Wimborne were left to ponder defeat.
Manager Danny Holmes told BBC Radio Solent: “It was a hard-fought game and I actually thought we deserved a draw.
“I said to the boys both their goals were (from) naivety of us. We knew they were would go long and they got into our final third.
“We made silly mistakes and (gave away) free-kicks – they have both come from set-pieces.
“We seem to give away naïve goals and that’s something to try to work on.”
