SCOTT Mitchell hopes Dorset have "learnt our lessons" from previous near misses as they resume their quest for promotion from Division One of the British Inter-Counties Championship.

Former Lakeside champion and current PDC Challenge Tour leader Mitchell is still able to compete for his county having not obtained a full PDC Tour Card.

But he arrives in good form having defeated the likes of James Wilson, John Henderson and Joe Cullen and taken legs off world champion Peter Wright and world number one Michael van Gerwen during his fledgling PDC career in the past couple of months. Scotty Dog currently sits 97th on the official PDC order of merit.

But focus will be back on his Dorset duties this weekend with a trip to Hertfordshire.

"That’s the one part of not having a pro tour card, I can go back and continue to play for Dorset," Mitchell told the Daily Echo.

"We’re fourth and two points off second-place for promotion with three games to go, as we were last year and the year before.

"I’m hoping we’ve learnt our lessons and we can try and get promoted to the Premier with Dorset, that would be great."

West Midlands currently lead the way, ahead of Cheshire and London. Hertfordshire sit second-from-bottom.
