SUBSTITUTE Harry Baker scored but also missed a crucial penalty as Poole Town suffered a shock 2-1 away defeat to Southern League South strugglers Beaconsfield.

After replacing Will Spetch following a goalless first half at Holloway’s Park, frontman Baker had an immediate impact, racing clear and converting to put Tom Killick’s side a goal in front.

But James Ewington hit back two minutes later for the hosts, after Luke Cairney in the away goal failed to hold on to the ball after an initial save.

Dolphins then fell behind with 18 minutes remaining when Ewington added his second.

Aaron Minhas intercepted a misplaced pass from Poole to set up the forward, who coolly stroked home what proved to be the winner.

The drama did not stop there however, as visitors Poole squandered a chance to seal a point.

Baker stepped up from 12 yards following a foul in the Beaconsfield box, only to be denied by Myles Bowman in the home goal.

Defeat left Dolphins 10th in the division, with 44 points from 25 games played.
