NEW Pirates recruit Zane Keleher is hoping to repeat the success of a host of former Australian riders for the club, saying: "I’d be thrilled to continue on the pathway that some of those other names have gone on."

Keleher is set to join Poole ready for the start of the SGB Championship season in April, in what will be his debut campaign riding in England.

Pirates are no strangers to some notable former Aussies, such as Darcy Ward and Chris Holder as well as last year's trio Josh Grajczonek, Brady Kurtz and Jack Holder.

Three-time world champion Jason Crump also rode at Wimborne Road and it has been announced this week that he will come out of retirement at the age of 44 to compete for Ipswich Witches this season.

"There’s a lot of history with Poole and Australian riders and world champions," Keleher told the Pirates website.

"I think it’s a great stepping stone, a great club and I’d be thrilled to continue on the pathway that some of those other names have gone on.

"I can’t wait to get started and see if I can do that same thing."

Keleher is not the only Australian among Poole's septet for 2020.

He is set to travel to the UK with fellow countrymen Ben Cook and Josh MacDonald.

"It’s pretty exciting to be on a team with these guys," said Keleher.

"We’ve raced each other in the winter series for the last couple of seasons and I think it’s really cool that we’re all on the same team.

"Who knows, maybe we can put some good team riding together. I think it’s really beneficial that we all know how each other ride. That’s going to be beneficial for the team."

Asked for his 2020 aims, Keleher added: "I’ve ticked the first one off, that’s getting a contract for Poole Pirates.

"As the season goes on we’re going to get over there and get on with press day and try and get a good advantage on our home track.

"Then all the away tracks are going to be fresh to me every time we go there so we’ve got to learn those tracks.

"Obviously we’re going to be competing against guys who have ridden those tracks.

"It’s great to be on the Pirates team this year and I really can’t wait to get over there and get started with the boys."
