BOURNEMOUTH climbed off the bottom of National Two South but were denied a third victory of the campaign in a 20-20 home draw against Westcliff.
In a topsy-turvy contest which saw Lions trail 15-0 at one point, the Chapel Gate outfit roared back thanks to tries from Mike Pope and Alan Manning just past the hour mark.
Ten points from the boot of Grant Hancox gave Lions a five-point lead before Westcliff’s Jake Spivey levelled up the contest with a third try for the visitors.
Thankfully for Bournemouth, Joseph Ford’s conversion attempt to win it went wide of the posts.
The draw ensured Lions leapfrogged Sutton & Epsom on points difference to go second-from-bottom of the pile.
Bournemouth host Clifton at Chapel Gate on Saturday (2pm).
