COMMONWEALTH cruiserweight champion Chris Billam-Smith could defend his crown in front of the Sky Sports TV cameras in Bournemouth.

The 29-year-old, who won the title by beating Craig Glover live on Sky back in November, is hopeful of a sensational homecoming after talks have taken place with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn.

Billam-Smith, who is still based in Bournemouth on weekends, could headline a huge domestic fight on the same card as fellow Dorset professionals Lee Cutler and Jack Simpson.

Coach Shane McGuigan told Boxing Social: “We’ve been in chats with Eddie (Hearn) about taking a NXTGen show down to Bournemouth.

“It’s not done yet but It’s looking likely.”

Nicknamed The Gentleman, former Poole ABC star Billam-Smith has had 10 victories and just one defeat in the professional ranks.

And he admits the chance to bring live televised boxing to Bournemouth would be an “honour”.

He said: “As far as I’m aware there has never been a televised professional show in Bournemouth. We have had shows there – I’ve had four or five fights there at a smaller venue.

“The town is buzzing about boxing in general. We have had evenings with Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, which have been packed out. Floyd Mayweather is also coming down to Poole.

“It would be unbelievable to make some history and defend my belt back home.

“I didn’t box at home last year, so it would be great to bring a show back home. A real honour.”
