WIMBORNE boss Danny Holmes insisted his side “shouldn’t need motivating” as they kick off 2020 with a crunch derby battle at home to Poole Town.

Magpies go into the contest 17th in Southern League South, with 22 points from their opening 21 games.

Promotion-chasing Poole still have fixtures in hand on the remainder of sides above them.

Tom Killick’s men are eighth in the pile, eight points adrift of the play-off places.

But Holmes is expecting his side to be fully focused to show their derby desire against Dolphins tomorrow (3pm).

He told Radio Wimborne: “Mentally now we have to dig in and get the momentum in games, what better than to be at home against Poole Town.

“We will need to be motivated. I’m looking forward to it and I’m sure that Tommy is, the points are valuable at home, we respect who we are playing and look forward to the challenge.

“It looks like I go up against my nephew (Luke). Individually they’ve got a fantastic side, we know all about them, we’ve got to do the business especially at home.

“We need points, the boys shouldn’t need motivating.”
