CO-PROMOTER Danny Ford revealed how Pirates’ new recruit Josh MacDonald had arrived highly recommended by skipper Danny King.

The 22-year-old has been confirmed as the fourth new signing at Wimborne Road for the 2020 SGB Championship campaign.

Born in New South Wales, Aussie ace MacDonald rode alongside number one King at Sheffield last season.

Speaking about their latest signing, Ford told the Daily Echo: “Obviously Poole has a fantastic history bringing in young Aussie guys throughout the years.

“We hope Josh can tap into a little bit of that and hopefully he will produce some great performances next year.

“Danny King rode with him last year at Sheffield. Danny being our captain and one of the most respected riders around, his opinion really mattered and he had great things to say about Josh.

“He said he was a great lad, great to get on with in the pits and he saw something there and that’s what we are hoping to build on.

“Anyone who sees a little spark in someone, we will take a look at them.”

MacDonald had been set to ride for Workington last season before they dropped out of the league in 2019.

He took his chance at Sheffield in June having replaced Kasper Andersen.

“The Sheffield management spoke really highly of him,” said Ford.

“We looked at his scores throughout the season and we saw potential there. With the references Sheffield gave it seemed a great fit.”
