GEORGIA Hall expressed her delight at women's golf getting "the recognition it deserves" after she collected her MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) today.

The Dorset star, 23, received her medal at Buckingham Palace from the Prince of Wales, having been named in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in June for services to golf.

Taking to social media, Hall said: "Such an amazing day receiving my MBE at Buckingham Palace!

"So nice to have women’s golf get the recognition it deserves."

Hall last year won her first major championship, lifting the Women's British Open trophy in Lytham St Anne's.

Bournemouth-born Hall's form was patchy throughout 2019, but she did play a key role in Europe regaining the Solheim Cup with a thrilling 14.5-13.5 win over USA at Gleneagles.

Suzann Petterson's trophy-clinching putt from that event is one of six options on the shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year's 'Greatest Sporting Moment' award of 2019.

Hall revealed earlier this year how she did not discover the letter inviting her to collect her MBE for two weeks as she was away competing.
