TONY Lee’s late goal proved not enough as Wimborne Town went down 3-1 to Southern League South rivals Hayes & Yeading.

The former Poole and Dorchester frontman continued his impressive form by netting in stoppage time but Magpies suffered their ninth league loss of the campaign.

Elliott Buchanan opened the scoring for the hosts on 35 minutes after he brought the ball down and fired past Cherries loanee Cameron Plain in the visitors’ goal.

Plain then came to the rescue with a penalty save from Ogo Obi to keep Magpies in the hunt before the interval.

After Lee saw a shot charged down at the start of the second half, Hayes soon grabbed a second. Aaron McCreadie thumped the ball home to put Hayes in command.

Scott Donnelly then beat Plain from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 after a judged hand ball in the Wimborne area.

Lee did get what proved to be a consolation for the Dorset club when he rose highest to head home a corner.
