TWO goals from Tony Lee in six second-half minutes earned Wimborne Town their fifth victory of the Southern League South campaign.

The former Poole Town and Dorchester forward was at the double as Danny Holmes’s charges saw off Yate Town 2-0 at Cuthbury.

After a goalless first half, Holmes’s side sprung to life after the interval.

After good work from Sam Bayston and Luke Burbidge, Lee got on the end of a devilish cross to open the scoring six minutes past the hour mark.

And the frontman was not done there.

A Burbidge cross on 72 minutes found the head of the forward – who made no mistake in wrapping up three points for his side and giving them back-to-back league successes.

Victory put Wimborne six points clear of the bottom three after 15 league games.

Their next test comes with a home encounter against Gosport Borough on Saturday, November 16.

  • Meanwhile, midfielder Franklyn Clarke has left Cuthbury to rejoin Dorset rivals Dorchester Town.

The former Poole Town and York City man featured in Dorchester’s 2-1 home defeat to Harrow Borough on Saturday.

  • Poole Town’s scheduled league clash with Met Police was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Black Gold Stadium.

Tom Killick’s side begin the start of their Dorset Senior Cup defence when they visit Wessex League Portland United on Tuesday (7.45pm).
