BOSS Danny Holmes implored his charges to keep their heads up after late heartbreak in a 1-0 defeat at Chesham United.

Holmes’ Magpies looked set to pick up a point away at one of Southern League South’s in-form sides after weathering a storm of attacks.

However, it was not to be as, with just six minutes to go, the hosts took a late lead via substitute Bradley Clayton.

Holmes told Radio Wimborne: “It was a hard challenge, because Chesham are a good side who will be up there.

“We were away from home, so we were always going to be slightly on the back foot.

“I thought it was a better performance. We were hoping to counter-attack and get chances. However, at the moment we just aren’t creating many chances.”

Wimborne are now winless in four league games and have slipped to 18th in the table.

Holmes added: “When you’re having a run of bad form like we are, we have to keep our heads up. We have to take the pluses into Tuesday (against Dorchester). On the ball we need to be better.

“At the moment it’s about building confidence and getting out of the rut.

“It’s not happening at the moment, but we have to just keep going and make it click.”

Magpies: Plain, Hester, Maybury, Byrne (Davidson, 57), Poole, Doe, Stokoe (Bayston, 75), Clarke, Lee, Burbidge, Wilson (Roberts, 68).
