IPSWICH rider Cameron Heeps believes his team can pull off an upset by progressing past Pirates in the SGB Premiership play-off semi-final.

The sides are tomorrow set to compete in the first leg of the last-four encounter at Wimborne Road.

Pirates selected the Witches as opposition after last week finishing top of the league standings following a 51-39 victory at King’s Lynn.

But Heeps remains confident his side can overcome the defending champions and meet either Swindon or Wolverhampton in the finale of the competition.

He told the Ipswich website: “I guess we are the underdogs again now, as shown because Poole picked us as the weakest team.

“If we ride like we did at the start of the season I think we can pull off a surprise and make the final and you never know what will happen from there.

“It is always going to be tough, they (Pirates) have been to our place and beaten us but we have run them close at their place too.

“There are pros and cons to it all, but it is a clean slate on Thursday. We have met our goal this year so anything from here is bonus and hopefully we will bring a few bonuses to the end-of-season awards!”
